In Their Own Language
Two little babies, talking to each other:
© Walterrean Salley
Laughing. Giggling. Enjoying one another.
The parents, watching in a daze
Were simply wondrously amazed.
They only doted, but couldn’t engage,
For they were grownups over aged.
They didn’t understand ‘baby’ language
The jibber jabber, and cooing sounds.
The finger pointing. And hand waving.
The premature verbs. And toddler nouns.
And so, one baby said to the other,
“…better enjoy it while you can,
Cause pretty soon, we’ll be like them.”
And the other replied, “Awww MAN!”
