The Interim of Youth
THE INTERIM OF YOUTH
(c) 1997 Walterrean Salley
Youth is wonderful, exciting and daring—
Full of passion, indulgence and foolishness.
There you will find strength
Like that of the unicorn,
And speed like that of the buck,
And energy like that of the young roe.
Youth is daydreaming and seeing mirages,
Existing on fantasy while ignoring reality,
And second-guessing tomorrow
While pushing the future further away.
Youth is the interim between
Adolescence and adulthood—
Through which each must pass
And none wants to leave;
But time forces us on.
Youth needs a guide
That young men might not stray,
And that youth, itself, might not be deemed
An ignorant bliss—full of errors and regret.
