Giving thanks
Should be a given in life.
One of the phrases taught
Alongside Mamma. And Dada,
As a baby learns to talk.

One should be taught
the importance of Thanksgiving
Even from a child.

It’s not only the gartering
of families.
It’s not the turkey, hen,
macaroni, greens
and sweet potato pie --
All those delicacies
That graces a lavishly
decorated.
.
But it’s the state of the heart.
Simple, but pure.
Sincere, and grateful.
Being felt as well as said.
Thank you.
