Finally Retiring

On cold days, dressing in layers
To combat the bitter cold.
Pouring water on icy windshield
To clear the frost away.

Or dragging a painful leg
Because of a sore hip joint.
And driving with sleepy eyes,
So heavy that the lids could close.

These are only an ounce of things
You’ve endured for twenty-five years,
While trying to hang in there
Until your day would come.
Till that much-sought time would come.

Well, you can rest now.
Your day is here; it’s finally here.
And what a feat.
Congratulations my friend.
I am so proud of you.
