Grateful That I'm a Human

Oh how I love animals;
They're a highlight to our world
From the dawn of creation -
When the creatures were unfurled.

There is a very bright side,
Yet there is a dark side, too,
Of the Animal Kingdom...
Not evident in the zoo.

The fun, cuddly behavior.
The devotedness you find.
Pretty patterns and colors.
Designs and shapes of all kinds.

But to note the savageness
Of brutality and greed
Often robs the merry heart
That on such a kingdom feeds.

And so, for this Thanksgiving,
I am grateful beyond words
That God has made me human -
Though beautiful are the birds.
